Vikes' strikes hold off Conrad
BIGFORK - In a high-energy, see-saw game, Viking QB Augie Emslie tossed a 64-yard TD pass to Anders Epperly to give host Bigfork a 28-20 lead at the end of the third quarter.
But Conrad scored with 8 minutes to play then missed a late field goal as the Viking raised their record to 3-0 in nonconference play.
The teams combined for more than 700 yards of offense and 34 points in a manic second quarter that left the breathless teams separated by a single point at the half, 21-20. Emslie finished with 192 yards and two TDs passing on 10 completions and 20 attempts.
Epperly piled up 94 yards on four catches and Logan Taylor snagged five throws for 86 yards and a touchdown.
While the Viking passing game has the flash, running back Matt Farrier and his offensive line provides the spark. Farrier racked up 160 yards rushing and scored on a power run of 5 yards and a bolt for 36.
For the second straight week, Shane Rieke's placekicking made a difference in game strategy and on the scoreboard.
He was 4-for-4 on extra points while Conrad, forced to try for 2 after all four touchdowns but converting only once, literally lost on post-TD conversions.
The unblemished Vikings travel to neighbor St. Ignatius for a nonconference 7 p.m. game on Sept. 16.
