Bigfork Rotary Roundup

A visit from Dr. Federico Seifarth from Kallispell Regional

Medical Center brought the club the most recent update on the expanding pediatric program and its new facility on the east side of the medical complex, including a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and pediatric subspecialty care in surgery, neurology, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, ENT, neonatology, cardiology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, endocrinology and hospitalist services. For many young patients this will mean that they and their families will not have to travel to places like Seattle for their care.

Last Wednesday our club was inspired

by local writer, Leslie Budewitz. She shared her journey to learn to write after being a lawyer for many years. She has authored a series of light murder mystery novels (one series set in a Bigfork inspired village!) A recent non-fiction publication uses her legal background in a book designed to be a resource for other writers so they can write accurately if their story includes legal scenes. Read more about Leslie and her accomplishments: http://www.lesliebudewitz.com

Our club stepped away from the cold yesterday for a slide tour of Costa Rica through Bigfork resident, Debi Strong. Debi shared with us her journey to this Central American coastal country and how she discovered how to travel and help with needs there at the same time.

She learned first at her hotel about PackforaPurpose.org? in which travelers can pack a suitcase full of needed items to bring on the plane to the destination country.

Paying for the extra suitcase (typically $50) is much cheaper than shipping those same goods separately. More recently she is doing a campaign about CEPIA (http://www.cepiacostarica.org/en/) a nonprofit Association pro Culture, Education and Psychology for infants and adolescents.

Better late the never...Right, The guys at Harvest Foods in Bigfork and student volunteers were wonderful to help out with our Rotary Christmas food project!
